Alignment with Standards

Schools and educators often ask how the Health Care Core Curriculum (HCCC) connects to National Health Science Standards. This page provides an overview and a link to the official crosswalk.

View the HCCC/NCHSE Crosswalk here:

What the Crosswalk Provides

  • Shows how HCCC modules connect to the National Consortium for Health Science Education (NCHSE) standards
  • Identifies which standards are addressed in HCCC content and where they can be found
  • Highlights areas not covered by the HCCC so schools can supplement as needed

Focus of the HCCC

The HCCC emphasizes foundational knowledge and soft skills essential in all healthcare careers, including communication, professionalism, teamwork, and safety.

Adding Technical Content

Because the HCCC is designed as a starting point, it does not cover certain technical standards, such as:

  • Medical mathematics
  • Technical skills
  • Diseases and disorders
  • Human anatomy and physiology

It is common for colleges and schools to pair the HCCC with other courses depending on their healthcare program offerings. Examples include:

  • Medical Terminology
  • Nursing Assistant
  • Medication Aide Training
  • First Aid/CPR
  • EMS and Emergency Care

This approach allows flexibility while ensuring students gain both the core foundation from HCCC and the technical skills needed for their chosen healthcare pathway.
